Agile Surfing (Intern Edition)
If you ever learned to ride a bike or a wave, you know there was something you had to learn that no one in the world could teach you. Sure, you had to learn how to shift your weight and how to keep your eyes locked forward. But the most important thing to learn others could only tell you about. What is it and how does it apply to business, life, and internships?
Shore Lost In Country Kingdom
About 9 miles west of Edinburgh Castle in a town called Ratho you will find one of Europe’s largest surf resorts. How can that be? The closest beach in Cramond is about a 20-minute drive away! Well, an unused quarry was recently converted into a luxury inland surf resort, literally defining what a triumph of imagination looks like. Now how about that?
There you can learn to surf year-round from sunrise to sunset in a wave pool about three times the size of a soccer field. Imagine learning how to get shacked, keep your arms bent when you turtle roll, or hang ten whilst being miles from the coast. It has got to be tubular, even when you wipeout! Just remember to share the wave to avoid being a wave hog and Quimby.
No big, unrideable waves there. You get to learn. Remember that bike with training wheels? You had them on until you learned that thing we mentioned. You know…balance. How exactly did you learn something no one could teach you? Like something popped up inside you and gave you this new ability you can now take from the shore to a victory at sea.
Victory At Sea Time
When is the last time you truly had a victory on land or at sea? How did it make you feel? Now what would it be like to learn how to surf the biggest wave there is – your own career and life? If you are up for it, it is probably best to start in a safe environment before venturing out to a Popoyo, Cloud 9, or San Clemente beach. The waves can crash hard in those places.
Interning at Agile Rainmakers is sort of kinda almost like surfing at Lost Shore in Ratho. In a nurturing environment that pushes you to be extraordinary, you get to discover for yourself what you are capable of. You get to learn how to work in a team, think outside the box, measure your own progress, add value for clients, and talk to founders and executives. Though it will sure feel like it has, your ocean surfing will not improve one iota!
However, you will learn to surf your career. The truth is many internships have you stand in still water while the adults in the room figure out whether you fit in. Being a Shubie (a person who buys a surfboard but does not surf) is definitely not fun. So, why not go where you can join a party wave that's happening?
If you – or someone you know – is in college and wants to learn balance in the real world, apply today at https://www.agilerainmakers.com/apply-here. Who knows? Maybe you will create the next inland surf adventure no one else could have imagined.
So, get on the deck, learn balance onshore, and carve a rad adventure this summer at Agile.
P.S. Now's the time to get that perfect stocking stuffer for your college student: How To Intern Successfully.
Here's to you and your awesome future.
Until then, keep your feet on the board and keep riding your wave!
